New releases (supposedly) include Neurosis, Baroness, Ufomammut, Black Sabbath, Ghost, Pallbearer, Uzala, Torche, Electric Wizard, High on Fire, Saint Vitus, Cult of Luna, Intronaut, Mouth of the Architect, Hooded Menace, Triptykon, and Om.

Some of these releases are confirmed while others are based on the fact that the bands are currently or soon to be recording and may be subject to change. A majority have been listed on Metal Storm's Upcoming Releases page.

It looks like a stellar year for doom, sludge, and associated genres of music.

High on Fire, Baroness, Triptykon and Om are the ones I'm really excited about... and I'm curious to see how the new Ghost album turns out.

Good choices, especially Baroness and Triptykon. I'm looking forward to Om and High on Fire as well, but I'm not really expecting any surprises from these two bands.

If I had to pick one I would go with Triptykon, though. I thought Eparistera Daimones was a slight step down from Frost's Monotheist, but it was still an excellent album.

My runner ups would probably be Saint Vitus and Baroness. I really want to hear if Vitus still has it even though I'd prefer Reagers behind the mic.

I'm most excited for these so far:

- new Saint Vitus
- new Triptykon
- new Om
- new Sabbath

and also (though it's already out by now, I still need to purchase it, so yeah...):

- new King Giant!

Looking forward to getting that meaty slab of vinyl in my mailbox Smile

Swallow the Sun
Paradise Lost (wasn't too impressed by the first single however)
Triptykon

I'm not sure who else out of my favorites will be releasing new material.

But it is going to be album, but three EPs. I have no idea why they have chosen this way of releasing their music, but it is sure exciting to see what they have come up with.

What i've gathered is that each EP is a different aspect of their music. On EP is going to be their softer, acoustic bluesy stuff, another is going to be more doom metal, and the other is going to be more traditional rock/metal type stuff. Although i almost think i heard that they were releasing 4 EPs...not sure.

It could be 4 EPs. I am not sure about that. Okay it kinda makes sense to do it this way, even though it means that you would have to buy four EPs instead of one cd, and this will probably be more expensive.

In an interview Phil also said that the whole thing is kind of a series of concept records. Pepper Keenan, as he has previously, is doing all the artwork for each of the albums. One shitty thing about it all is that Rex Brown is no longer on bass.

Interesting. I don't know how I feel about this. I love Down, but do I love them enough to buy 3-4 EPs?

I imagine they'll do some sort of package deal after they release all of them. If they don't it will just take longer to get them all but i'll end up doing it cause i am a sucker like that.

According to The Obelisk the new High on Fire "De Vermis Mysteriis" is due out April 3rd. After reading about it I'm psyched. Didn't think it would be out until Summer or Fall.

Yeah, I can't remember the last time I was looking forward to so many releases from killer bands. I guess it also increases the possibility of being disappointed. Most of the bands that I'm looking forward to hearing new material from have pretty solid track records, though.

Does anyone (drdoom?) know if there is a vinyl edition of Pale Divine's Painted Windows Black coming out?
A quick search didn't turn up any results, so I'm wondering if I should hold out for a while or just get the cd..

There are no plans for it so far...

There is a VERY recent interview of Pale Divine in my blog, I suspect Ed will host it on Doommantia at some point.

I would go for the CD if I were you.

I would say this is the less typical Pale Divine album to date.

Most tracks sound like doom ballads and vocals are much more melodic. Not many stoner elements any more. Still heavy as hell. Also the lyrics are deeper! "The Prophet" is a fine example of how the album goes. Listen to it here.

Still "Thunder Perfect Mind" is my favorite, hm... then "Cemetery Earth". Probably "Painted Windows Black" next... who knows time will tell!

Make sure to like the band in their facebook page! They promised to release rare demo material if their likes reach a good level!

P.S. sorry for giving too much info...

Hey, thanks a lot for the answer. I saw the review on your blog, but I had only skimmed it before posting here. Read the entire thing by now, I really hope they get the chance to release all their material on vinyl someday, I'd certainly buy them all. Love the new song too, I definitely see what you mean about the lyrics. I'll order the CD as soon as possible then..

Oh, and there's no such thing as too much information, I really appreciate the effort Smile

New High on Fire tune "Fertile Green" is streaming at Pitchfork.

http://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/13243-fertile-green/

Sounds angrier than "Snakes" for sure and the production is grittier. I've read the comparisons before, but it's giving off a Black Cobra vibe. I'm really digging it based on one play through. Getting more psyched for this release.

I put in my order for a promo of the album, I expect to get it within a week so I will let you know what I think. From what I have heard, it is going to be a return to the early style. More dirty, gritty and raw!

Sounds angrier than "Snakes" for sure and the production is grittier. I've read the comparisons before, but it's giving off a Black Cobra vibe. I'm really digging it based on one play through. Getting more psyched for this release.

Tell me about it! I've listened to it about 6 times already and it has just made the wait untill April harder.....

I put in my order for a promo of the album, I expect to get it within a week so I will let you know what I think. From what I have heard, it is going to be a return to the early style. More dirty, gritty and raw!

That track doesn't sound much like their early style...to me the band seems to move away from their slow, heavy, monolythic style and into a more dup-dup thrash style...

No that track doesn't but people are saying the album on the whole is a return to the early stuff but we have all heard comments like that before so we won't know for sure till we hear it.

Sally is right, that track doesn't like their early stuff but who knows what the rest of the album will sound like. I hope it is a return to the early style but I doubt it will happen.

It's really hard to pass judgement based on a single song. Each HoF album is its own distinct beast due to the production but they are all unmistakably High on Fire albums. It doesn't really seem like they have any interest in reproducing a certain recorded sound. After initially listening to Fertile Green I was blown away, but after several listens the production job sounds a bit over the top. I'm still definitely looking forward to more and I can't wait to read Ed's impressions of the album.

I've liked every High on Fire album better than the last one, so I'm not worried in the least!

I am in the same boat...i have a hard time doubting anything Matt Pike does...just look at his track record...Asbestosdeath, Sleep, HOF, Kalas all are pretty bad ass in my opinion and he seems to be like fine wine he just gets better with age.
