Almost impossible for me to make a top 10 in terms of the best albums so here is the ten albums that mean the most to me in doom metal. The top ten albums that turned me into a doom nut forever. Subject to change of course.

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality
Cathedral - Forest Of Equilibrium
Electric Wizard - Come My Fanactics
Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metalicus
Saint Vitus - Saint Vitus
Saint Vitus - Born Too Late
Solitude Aeturnus - Alone
Trouble - Psalm 9
Pagan Altar - Volume 1 *

* If this album was released in the early '80s, as it was originally intended to, instead of 1998, Pagan Altar could have been a household name. I was lucky enough to get a cassette tape of it around 1985 and always thought it was just a demo. Never knew it was a proper album but never released.

Thanks man!

But I'm a bit tired about the Southern Lord multiple re-releases of "Crippled Lucifer" collection, I hope that the next version will be the DEFINITIVE one.

Yeah that is why Southern Lord get the "hipster label" term from some people. I don't see much point in re-issuing albums all the time. I have bought the album twice myself so i won't be buying it again, by all means keep it in circulation but leave it at that. I was very critical of the re-release of Sleep's Holy Mountain for that reason, it served to no purpose except as a money grab for the label and offer nothing extra for the fans.

Twisted Evil Great albums on all these lists but to be honest i hate making lists like these. Its like the top 40 albums of the year list that happens every December or January, i make mine but i always change my mind about certain albums. Music has always been about what state of mind i am in at a given time so its hard to pick favorites.

Trouble - Run To The Light
Cirith Ungol - King Of The Dead
Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality
Black Sabbath - Born Again
Black Sabbath
Saint Vitus

I have made my top 10 doom list which I don't think I can change too much so here is 10 albums outside of Doom that changed my life, in no particular order.

Black Sabbath - every album they made in the 70's !!
Deep Purple - In Rock
Jimi Hendrix - Are you Experienced
Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon
Frank Zappa - One Size Fits All
Alice Cooper - Killer
Hawkwind - Space Ritual
Motorhead - Overkill
Mahivisnu Orchestra - Birds Of Fire
Budgie - In For The Kill

Many more of course but just 10 for the sake of it.

Ahh... Deep Purple in Rock is one of the best albums ever made...

There's also many classical 70's albums which I can't stop playing at least once a month

- Motörhead Ace of Spades
- Motörhead Bomber
- The Who Tommy
- The Who Who's Next
- Neil Young Harvest
- The Stooges Fun House
- The Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers
- Leonard Cohen New Skin for the old Ceremony
and of course
- Led Zeppelin IV
(about Led Zep, to me Dazed and Confused can be considered as one of the first Doom songs ever made... Just listen to the riffs)

I also see that some of you mentioned Pink Floyd. They've done so many amazing albums, but my favorite one is also the most under rated. I know that most of you won't agree with me but The Final Cut is the best one.
Roger Waters has never been so haunted and tortured by his father's death in Anzio during World War II than on this record. The enhanced version of the record which includes When the Tiger's broke free (originally featuring on The Wall movie) is a true masterpiece.

I love all of those records too except for The Rolling Stones, I could never get into them apart from a few songs and I agree about Dazed And Confused.........very doomy riff on that one.

Warning - Watching From a Distance
Saint Vitus - Saint Vitus
Black Sabbath - S/T
Nemesis - The Day of Retribution
Cirith Ungol - King of the Dead

(Hate having to miss out Revelation - Release, Black Hole - Land of Mystery and Jex Thoth - S/T!!!!!)

I hate top 10 lists, I have to do a top 100 just to fit most of my favorites in and even then I would have to leave out some classics.

I agree, on another forum that Jayke and I used to frequent someone started a top 50 fav Metal list and that was pretty hard. I think I've got a solid top 5 but my top 10 changes a lot, lol.

Yeah, I tend to listen to music according to mood so my favorites change daily. Every year I do a best albums of the year list, I gave up on the top 10 idea, I think last year it finished up being a top 50 ha ha.

Music is very subjective, something you love today you may not listen to at all in 6 months time and vice-versa.
